Hi Everyone. I am having brain failure when it comes to recording mileage when I run errands (non business related during the day) and then return back to pet sitting. I have to give you an example or else I won't get it.

Started at overnight stay 57124
Tom's cat (easy to write) 26
Jenny's bird 29
Post Office (business related) 31
Suzy's horse 36
Lunch with friend (non business) (mileage takes me to 53)
Jim's dog (5 miles from the restaurant which takes me to 58)

I don't know what mileage to begin for Jim's dogs. Does mileage for Suzy's horse end at 36 and then Jim's starts at 58?

You would think I would get this but I don't. Haven't seen an example of when the errands hit the middle of the day between pet visits. Thank you all!

Carolyn

I have been a pet sitter for several years and now have a client who wants her dog taken to a local school where there are open fields to let her dog run around. I asked her to sign a waiver because I have never walked a dog off leash, and she went off on me, getting very angry. I just wanted to find out if most pet sitters have the same policy? I am a member of Pet Sitters' Associates and they said not to let dogs off leash.

I know some dog walkers have group walks in the park or outings. Do they need special insurance for this? Do their clients sign waivers, or how do they handle liability issues?

For the first time in 10 years of pet sitting, someone is having a problem with my policy. I have a 3 day notice policy for cancellations or I charge for the cancelled sits. None of my customers has had a problem with this til yesterday. He is a daily customer, but he doesn't pay in advance--he pays for the week, each week. He cancelled today's mid-day yesterday, when I got to the house I found a note that he didn't need me. He does this at least once a week, and I have been charging him for the sit if it is less than 3 days notice (it always is less than 3 days).

He has decided he doesn't like paying for something that he cancels because due to his work load, he doesn't always know in adnvace if he can be off.

He has asked me "how do you want to handle this??" Well, I want to keep enforcing my policy--but how do I explain this to him in a professional, nice manner? It's not fair to me to not know what my schedule will be. Ofter times, he is the only sit I have for the day (and if he cancels at the last minute, I could have made plans for my lone day off!!) Instead, it is like I am on call for whatever he needs, whenever. I woke up this morning and checked email, and feel like has already put a damper on my day. Any advice??

I picked up a new client 3 weeks ago. This Monday, after I left walking the dog, the home was somehow broken into and 3 flat-screen TV's were stolen. I know I locked the door behind me.

I'm sure Maid Services, Contractors and other similar businesses must have to deal with this, but after talking with the police, an officer from Drexel U's campus police wants to interview me on Friday. Since I know I didn't do anything, I have nothing to worry a bout, but I'm still bothered by it. How could I not be considered suspicious being that only 3 weeks ago I got the key for the place?

This ever happen to any of you? Thoughts?

I hate when things don't run smoothly - I like smooth sailing and no-hassle times, so I'm a little upset this happened and could affect my status with this new client. I'm just really interested in hearing other people experiences to something like this.

Jim
Fairmount Pet Service

Hello ABQ Pet Sitters. I hope to relocate my pet sitting business to Albquerque over the summer. Any information you can tell me on the success/failures of being a pet sitter/dog walker in ABQ would be greatly appreciated. For example, do you pet sit/dog walk full time? On average, how many visits do you do on a daily basis? What areas of ABQ are "money makers"? What areas should I stay out of? Any suggestions/tips, etc would be greatly appreciated. And, once I'm relocated, would you mind passing along any business to me that you can't handle (due to being booked, or out of your area) so that I can get a jump start on my business?

Anyway, I would love to get your input on the pet care biz in ABQ.

Do any of you have opinions one way or the other of these 3 organizations when it comes to bond & insurance, and any other benefits they offer? Supposedly NAPPS has a separate cpr\first aid certification, and I think PSI (Pet Sitters International) also offers additional services. I'm currently with Pet Sitters Accociates, but want to look into the other two. And are there any other worth looking into?

Thanks!
Jim Kernicky
Fairmount Pet Service

Hey everyone! I am new, and after searching for business cards, I realized they were expensive or there was always some catch to the free ones. Even the ones that were 70+% off were too expensive after shipping (for me anyway lol). I even tried the companies recommended and after shipping and the length of time to get them, I came up with an idea...

I saved 15 dollars on a set of 250...here is how.

My one hour photo lab had a special - 3.00 for 30 4x6 prints. I edited my business cards onto a digital 4x6 picture at 300 dpi resolution in my paint shop program and ended up getting 3 biz cards per 4x6 sheet! And they're glossy and you can pick them up in one hour at any photo lab. The only thing is that they will need to be trimmed with a paper cutter, but I ended up getting 250 business cards for a little over 14.00 this way and I was able to get them in one hour and they are the same - if not, BETTER quality than the average business cards!

I had some magnets I purchased years ago online that happen to be business card size, so I am attaching the "photo biz cards" to them

Hope this helps some of you!! Just thought I would pass this along...

http://www.fluffyfaces.com

So I added my biz with Google maps and I've actually gotten some clients from it. But even though I filled out all the fields, hardly any info comes up when you click on my link, whereas other pet sitting companies in the area have a lot of detail.

Anyone know why that is, or how I can get more detail to show for my business?

Thanks!
Jim Kernicky
www.fairmountpetservice.com
